Spamming is a problem that is affecting almost everyone in Hong Kong. It takes forms, from junk fax and email to junk voice or video messages on your fixed line or mobile telephone.
The Government has been working with the community to tackle the problem of unsolicited electronic messages through our STEPS campaign. Moreover, Unsolicited Electronic Messages Ordinance (UEMO), which aims to further combat the problem of spam and to strike the balance between respecting the rights of recipients and allow the development of legitimate electronic marketing in Hong Kong, was enacted and came into full force on 22 December 2007.
This website provides you with information on our STEPS campaign and introduces you to the provisions of the UEMO as well as tips on handling unsolicited messages through email.
